ENERGY FOR SUSTAINABLE FUTURE

Transition towards a sustainable energy future is the focus of attention in recent years among governments, companies and the general public.

The Cycle of Conferences “Towards Sustainable Futures”, organized in collaboration between the EST Lab of the Energy Center @ Politecnico di Torino and PoliENERGY, draws a six-step path in five meetings to provide a comprehensive view of the environmental sustainability perspectives in the energy sector.

The event will be held in presence, at the Auditorium of Energy Center (via P. Borsellino 38, Torino), or on line.

Registration is mandatory at the links below.

PoliTO students can obtain 1 extra-curricular CFU attending at least 4 conferences.

Africa’s Energy Future: discussing energy leapfrogging potential in Sub Saharan Africa

The results of “Africa’s Energy Future”, the joint research developed by the Energy Security Transition (EST) lab @energycenter – Politecnico di Torino and Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI) will be presented on Thusday September 30 2021 h. 11.00.

Sub-Saharan Africa is home to 75% of the world population without energy access; yet, many countries in the continent have been witnessing an extraordinary growth in access to power, largely thanks to renewables, which still hold a largely untapped potential across Africa The continent’s energy future could lay in its leapfrogging potential: the possibility of leaping from a situation of low to no energy access, to a universally accessible and fully sustainable energy mix.

During the conference the two products delivered by collaboration between ESTLab and IAI will be presented: the report and the web platform

The meeting will be held in person in the city of Turin, in the conference hall of the Energy Center (Politecnico di Torino). It will be open to the public upon registration and will be streamed on the channels of the Energy Center and IAI.

ENEA Quarterly Report 2020 – Last Trimester

The last ENEA Quarterly Report 2020 on the Italian energy system has been published.
The analysis aims to elaborate the data related to the energy sector, providing an overall picture of the system’s evolution starting from a transparent methodology and examining the factors that characterize it to assess the trends related to the three dimensions of energy policy: decarbonisation, energy security and cost – collectively defined as “energy trilemma”.

ELECTRIFY ITALY

The webinar on the reserch be held on Friday December 4, 2020 h 10.00.

Electrify Italy, the new study for a feasible pathway to implement a new energy paradigm in Italy based on electrification, has been published.
This study serves a double purpose: it aims to build a prospective vision to 2022, 2030 and 2050, including scenarios on renewables’ penetration with the electrification potential in the residential, industrial and transportation sectors; furthermore, it aims to estimate the benefits of electrification through the computation of KPIs on the economy, the environment and society.

ENEA Quarterly Report 2020 – III Trimester

The third ENEA Quarterly Report 2020 on the Italian energy system has been published.
This edition is enriched by analysis of the national oil supply: dependence, composition and diversification.

WEBINAR PROCEEDINGS | MED & Italian Energy Report 2020

The webinar presentation of the new MED & Italian Energy Report  was held on Wednesday July 22nd, 2020 at 11am.

Vincenzo Amendola, Italian Minister of European Affairs, and Francesco Profumo, President of the Compagnia di San Paolo, were among the speakers.

In this second edition of MED & Italian Energy Report, SRM and ESL@Energy Center have developed as much as possible a holistic and dynamic perspective of the potential scenarios with a core focus on renewables as a key to foster energy transition and Mediterranean cooperation, also looking at new technologies and the emergence of green electricity, gas and hydrogen synergies. In the light of Covid-19 pandemic and its consequences, these opportunities and challenges could really allow Italy and the Euro-Mediterranean area to take on a leading role in carrying out and enhancing the already started energy transition process.

Furthermore the Med Area has a huge role in the maritime transport, finding itself on a privileged route for the trade of oil and gas.

ENEA Quarterly Report 2020 – II trimester

The second ENEA Quarterly Report 2020 on the Italian energy system has been published.
This edition is enriched by a focus on increasing penetration of energy production from renewable sources and on the safety of the national electricity system.

Lighting Led-Laser Applications and Energy Electric Systems for Future

It will be hold Monday, July 20th from 5.30 p.m. the webinar on the Lighting Led-Laser Applications and Energy Electric Systems for Future with the participation of prof. Shuji Nakamura, 2014 Nobel Prize for Physics for the Invention of efficient blue light-emitting diodes University of California, S. Barbara.

At the event, prof. Bompard will descant on the new borders of the so-called “electric triangle”, the electrification of final energy uses that coupled with power generation from renewables and transport/distribution of electricity as energy vector is the key pathway to effectively implement the energy transition and to reduce the negative impacts that the combustion of fossil fuels causes.
